Day 241 - Drilling Holes

Its official - nesting had begun.

Dad to Be has taken a week off work and frenzied DIY and cleaning has commenced. My mother in law has volunteered to come and do some cleaning at some point but it one of those situations like people who clean before their cleaning lady comes - I have to clean to the best of my ability before she comes so she doesn't think we live in a skip and wonder why she let me marry her firstborn :)

Yet another trip to visit Mr Ikea has taken place to get a few bits and bobs of furniture to help us sort out lives out a bit (I'm becoming quite an expert with an Allen key) and multiple trips to the tip to try and get rid of stuff that wasn't in a condition to Freecycle or send to the charity shop. With a two bedroom flat with fairly minimal storage we have had to be pretty ruthless about weeding out our stuff.

I am sure that poor Dad to Be will agree that his top favourite job so far has been rehanging our curtain pole. MIL had made us some lovely thick curtains and we had got a wooden pole courtesy of Freecycle and thought we were set. About 6 months later we were sitting watching TV when a strange creaking noise commenced and the whole thing, curtains, pole and batton fell off the wall. Much swearing ensued. When we got the new curtains we foolishly thought that the wooden batton on the wall had been put up with something stronger than bluetack when we screwed our curtain pole to it. Ok, so the previous occupant had used screws and not just bluetack, but it turns out these only went into the plaster and no further. This week we finally got around to attempting to remedy the situation. Our wall seems to be a winning combination of dodgy plaster and concrete so you either try to put a screw in and it just falls out or you have to drill into the concrete linet above the window. Several broken drill bits and much wailing and gnashing of teeth later and Dad to Be has got the curtains back up, bless him.

I just hope the baby M__ hasn't been listening to Daddy over the last few days though as I think she might have learnt a few choice new expressions....
