While Dad_to_be was out making sweet (???) music with his mates the other day, I was off with the girls for a bit of pampering and then out for a meal in London.
Once again pregnancy was a complicating factor as usually I lay on a bed to have my facial but this time I needed an array of pillows to prop me up so that the weight of my uterus on my blood vessels didn't make me pass out! It was nice to relax a while though.
I am the first in this batch of friends to pop out a sprog and am forever amazed that even the one friend who definitely doesn't want children is so interested in the pregnancy. I am aware of not wanting to become some boring person who can only talk about babies and so don't want to hog conversation but the others keep starting threads off with, 'Can I just ask you one thing?'.
I also find it interesting how little we all understand about the birth process. My friends were scared I might just pop a baby out at any second. I explained that even if my waters broke and contractions started there and then, it would most likely be some hours before there would be any sign of a baby, by which time I would be back at home!
F_____ kept in touch, checking in at regular intervals for any sign of baby-related action to see how much he could drink!! After our middle of the night visit to hospital the other day neither of us wanted to take any chances.
I'm not being mean - we would have been exactly the same a year ago. In fact I remember us all anxiously sitting around staring at my sister for weeks, expecting a baby to just fly out or something!! I think it is because on the TV people always have their waters break with a huge rush in the supermarket or give birth in the back of cars by the roadside - normal birth just isn't dramatic enough.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, me and F__ have also learnt loads!!! I find it amazing how little we all know about the process. There is so much stuff that no-one ever mentioned until I got pregnant (and in some cases that is probably for the best as no-one would ever get pregnant if they knew it all...)
We are forever delighted at how kind you lot are in taking such an interest and showering little Miss M with such lovely gifts!! It is all very much appreciated.
