The Children Playing Will Grow Up and Leave Home

An update on Olivia's development...

Olivia is really growing up fast. Sometimes I look at her and I can really see her staring to be a little girl rather than a baby. She is getting on really well with her eating now and is trying new things all the time. So far we haven't really come across anything she doesn't like. Favourites at the moment are cheese, pears and nectarines. The nappies which come off that child make me wish I had had my nose surgically removed.

She has so much personality now and really is a very happy child, always laughing, singing and smiling.

She is still rubbish at sitting up but is a total whiz at rolling and can get herself from one end of the room to another if you aren't quick enough to grab her. Once second she is safely playing on the play mat and the next second she has rolled off the end and is licking the laminate floor! She is also starting to creep on her belly and is making efforts to try and pull her legs up. She can also bear her weight on her legs really well and will stand on the floor if I stand behind her and hold her hands.

She is at that stage now where she sees a toy that is out of reach and wriggled and rolls and creeps until she can get it. She also cried if you take something away that she wants, usually things like laptop power cables, handbags etc.

She is very happy playing on her tummy and pushes herself right up on the arms like she is about to do a pushup.

We are still not sure whether she understands her name is Olivia. I think probably not and she just looks at you 'cause you are talking to her.

She is getting good at toys which require some sort of action from her - pulling or pushing something to make music play or lights flash. It used to be accidental when she actually made on of these sorts of toys activate but it is starting to be a case of cause and effect. As we are trying to be an environmentally friend family we would prefer her toys to be degradable. This Christmas we are going to ask people if they want to buy her something new to buy fabric, wood or cardboard toys. I don't mind second had plastic toys as by having those we are keeping them out of landfill. There is a great shop in the town where we live which sells second hand toys. My NCT chums and I wandered down there the other day after our regular lunch meet and brought a few bits for the babies. Olivia also has lots of handed down toys from her cousins.

  1. I'm a big fan of buying 2nd hand toys too. I found a dreamtime baby musical aquarium thing for $5. In the store, it was $30. So, you can save a ton of money that way!
