Fluttering Distant Laughter

Well it's been a fair while since our last post. Things are pretty hectic at the moment with the new job and the house move. We have found a house to buy but have yet to get our flat on the market so things are getting pretty stressful.

Olivia is changing all the time. All of a sudden she is brilliant at sitting up. This has really made a big difference as it means that she can sit in a play pen and happily play with toys while you make the dinner or whatever.

Baby-led weaning is going well. Olivia's diet is ever expanding and some new things she has tried recently include fish fingers, home-made salmon fish cakes, home-made lentil burgers, kiwi fruit, plums and scrambled egg. Her coordination is getting very good and food pretty much goes straight in her mouth rather than being poked in her eye first! She especially loves Broccoli. I buy organic tender stem Broccoli and cut the stems long and she loves to hold it and eat the 'flowery' end.

She now has two top teeth - her front right and the one next to it and her front left and the one next to that are just about to come through. This means a lot of dribbling and some pretty evil nappies, with a nasty case of nappy rash to go with it.

She is also on the verge of crawling. She gets up on all fours and rocks but every time she tries to go forwards she falls on her face. She eventually gives up and creeps on her tummy to whatever she is trying to grab and stuff in her mouth. She's getting there though and I think it will happen very soon.

She has quite a lot to 'say' these days - lots of babbling and increasingly repetition of a specific sound such as dadadadadadadadada. There is also a lot of blowing bubbles and raspberries, which is supposed to be a good sign in terms of language development. We are starting to sign to her and at the moment use the signs for 'food', 'sleep' and 'milk'.

She is also learning how to interact through others with play. She now responds to peekaboo, 'round and round the garden' etc. She loves it when people sing and 'Old MacDonald' is still a firm favourite.

She really looks like a little girl rather than a baby now. She has such a lovely nature and is a very bright and happy child. My Mum looks after her while I work in the daytime and everywhere she goes with Olivia people admire her and comment on how lovely she is.

We feel very proud!

  1. Gregory likes the dadadad and raspberry sounds too. He has also startled a few people by seeming to suddenly exclaim "pouf!" when people arrive, to occasional comic effect!
