Today I printed out the birth plan in anticipation of our midwife D____ coming over on Sunday.
It all makes it seem that little bit more real to have it written on a piece of paper. As I've mentioned before, birth plans aren't a commitment to anything. They're not legally binding or anything, but they do provide a checklist that could come in very useful. Although we obviously hope otherwise, it could be that K___ finds the labour such hard going that she is incapable of thinking straight. The birth plan will allow me to prompt her at appropriate times - 'Do you still want to do X or Y?'
I've no idea whether this will work when it's actually happening, but it's certainly a good aide memoire. We shall see, but first we have to see whether D____ has any issues with it. I can't imagine she will.
After all, what's wrong with wearing a clown suit to your child's birth?
