Day 253 - You Make Me Wanna Cry

We spent this evening at the lovely S__'s.

Her two elder children were enjoying a sleep over at nanny's, but G______, being just four weeks old was very much around. I spent much of the time with S__'s husband ripping apart my old 'puter and putting the drives into this machine - harder than it sounds because the cage in this machine didn't have the space for the other drives and it's quite a cramped case anyway. As I type they're merrily reformatting. One will be for my MP3 collection and the other will become a scratch disc for some of my heavier apps.

Since I was doing techie things, I missed much of what was happening with G______, but he seemed a bit grouchy. He fed a great deal - K___ said it was five times, which seems excessive to me, but what do I know? At one point I came down to be sociable and G______ was grizzling and refusing to settle. S__ handed him to me and started to tell him all sorts of stories about the band Marillion and combined with a gentle bopping up and down, he went to sleep. Some might be mean enough to suggest this is because Marillion is a boring subject, but I would like to enter into the record that when S__ tried the same thing a bit later it didn't work at all.

It would be lovely to think that I have some mystical power to send babies to sleep on demand, but I have a feeling I probably just got a bit lucky. Still, not long before I get my own baby to practice on. Fortunately, I have a lot of Marillion anecdotes I can share.

Who said 'child abuse'..?
