Day 269 - Check on It

Mum to be here...

Thursday saw us heading home. This week clinic was on Thursday rather than Friday so we dumped our stuff at home and headed straight out to see the midwife.

Poor D____ was already running late and thought I was her last appointment but evidently a few people had booked in late, presumably because of the confusion about the change of day, so she had a few more to see after us. After a bit of quality time reading waiting room magazines we were ushered in for our appointment.

We had all the usual checks but obviously as I still had a fair bit of swelling and my blood pressure seemed to be climbing we were particularly keen to see the blood pressure and urine check results to see if everything was going ok. My first blood pressure reading was 140 over 90 - NOT GOOD! D____ looked concerned and said we would do it again in 10 mins. Still no protein showing up in the urine test so that was encouraging as it suggested we were still in the clear for pre-eclampsia but D____ wanted to do some blood tests to check that my liver and kidney function was ok given my blood pressure and elephant legs. At least my arm decided to play nicely this week and we didn't have the fiasco of last week where poor K__ couldn't get the blood to flow out of my arm! When she checked my blood pressure a second time, with a larger cuff than before, my pressure came out much lower and was less of a cause for concern.

Now it was just a case of waiting for the results of the blood tests and I would need to be visited at home over the next few days to keep an eye on things. D____ did warn us that we might be looking at a hospital delivery if things didn't settle down soon...
