Your New Year's Resolution

Well, happy new year to you. I sincerely hope your started better than ours, which featured Olivia not going to sleep and ending up seeing in the bongs of Big Ben at midnight with all the family and then refusing to sleep until three in the morning...

What else is there to tell you about..?

Oh yes, on New Year's Day, we (being me, K___, Grandma, K___'s sister C___ and her kids, plus some folk from Grandma's church) went for a walk in the grounds of Belton House, our nearby stately home.

It was a beautiful winter's day; so cold that the air was condensing on my moustache every time I exhaled, and with a heavy of frost across everything and a thin mist hugging the ground. The deer seemed to be everywhere and it was wonderful to watch as they suddenly took fright and broke away, these nimble creatures bounding over high fences with what seemed effortless ease. We even saw a couple of stags rutting and to make things really perfect, we made a stop by a groundkeeper's hut and munched on home made biscuits and drank a beaker of mulled wine. Lovely stuff!
Sadly, this was all rather overshadowed by Olivia who decided to scream blue bloody murder all the way around. Bearing in mind this was a three mile walk, that's quite a long time to be so miserable. Every few seconds we'd try and do something to make her happy, but nothing worked.

"Do you want to go in the buggy?"
"Yes."
Screaming...

"Do you want to go on Daddy's shoulders?"
"Yes."
Screaming...

"Do you want Mummy to carry you?"
"Yes."
Screaming...

It becomes very wearing after a while, I can tell you.

I'd like to dedicate this post to the other people on the walk who put up with our horrible banshee.
