This week - week 8 - genital development occurs, but this is just the result of an already determined process.
Sex, of course, is determined at conception by the two sex chromosomes - one from each parent. A woman has two X chromosomes and a man one X and one Y. Y is dominant to X. Two Xs you get a girl-flavoured baby, two Ys and you get a boy-flavoured one.
We've taken to referring to our future child as 'she'. This is largely down to K___ who would prefer a girl first. I don't really give a stuff either way as long as it's conclusively one or the other...
My mum and dad have said they don't want to know what flavour we end up having. That's going to be a little bit hard, as we've decided to find out. Whilst we open use 'she' in front of them, if we suddenly switched to 'he', or we suddenly stop using 'she', it'd be a bit of a give away.
This path to parenthood is fraught with tiny, unseen tripwires waiting to trip you up.
