K___ has been saying she's bored of this pregnancy thing now. It's not what she expected it to be.
Far from being a life enhancing experience all she's experienced so far is crushing tiredness, some nausea and general stiffness. What she hasn't really had is much of the feelings of well-being, oft described as 'blooming' and she would really quite like some, thank you very much. Don't get me wrong, K___'s been a complete trooper throughout this whole thing and hasn't been complaining. I've been asking!
It's getting towards the time when the womb begins to move upwards into the abdominal cavity to provide more room for the baby to grow. She's looking forward to that; she recently noticed that bending over seems more difficult. With the organs about complete, it's about now that the placenta will take over the task of producing hormones (and this marks the change from an embryo to a foetus). From now on the major task for the baby is to grow - pretty much all it needs to be a human being is in place.
I believe I'm right in saying that it is this change that will coincide with my tired and slightly uncomfortable wife being replaced with a new, blooming and radiant being, bathed in a heavenly glow, instantly identifiable by her call to all and sundry, 'I am having a baby. This is my bump. Have you noticed?' as she rubs her stomach in gentle anticipation.
Until the third trimester where she'll feel like crap again.
