Well, we finally got our appointment for the proper scan. K___ had said to me, 'If we don't hear anything by tomorrow, I'm going to phone up and speak to the midwife about it.'
Needless to say, the very next morning there was the appointment from the hospital. It's on the 27th in the morning. K___ says they don't last very long, so we'll go back to work in the afternoon. At the moment, K___ has lots of symptoms; aches, pains and the like; as she says, growing pains. But they don't really connect up with the life inside her.
We can't feel it react. There's a well known thing to test your baby's doing okay. It's called drinking a glass of ice cold water. If the baby's doing okay, it'll move out of the way and probably kick Mummy for being so mean into the bargain. But our baby won't be able to do that for a while yet. So, the scan is the first chance we get to know that there really is a baby in there and the heart is beating properly and it's the right size and things like that.
It won't tell us everything; we'll need to get the nuchal scan out of the way a few days later, but it's going to be a big thing. I feel nervous just thinking about it!
