K___ went to see the midwife the other day (this is slightly out of sequence - it was the day before we went off to the studio). I didn't go largely because we understood it would be completely routine and I'd also taken time off for the scan that same week.
There was one major issue for K___, namely whether it was going to be okay for her to go to her parents' in Lincolnshire at Crimbo. Given her due date is the 7th of January, we were a little concerned about what we would need to do. D___, our midwife, was entirely sanguine about the entire affair. She said that they had people from out of the area doing this kind of thing all of the time and it wouldn't be a problem. We are, of course, working on the assumption that K___'s health is going to be okay. Needless to say, should anything much have changed, then we would need to think the decision to go. D___ suggested that it might be an idea to present ourselves to the local midwifes when we go up next time. Groovy.
The other major thing that happened was that D____ warned K___ that she might get something of a hard sell from the consultant K___ was due to visit later that week. Apparently, the consultants at the hospital are well known for being a bit negative about the notion of having a home birth. D____ said that K___ should just stick to her guns and not be worn down. Forewarned is forearmed. K___ would have to see what would happen the following Wednesday.
Other than that, the visit was pretty straightforward. K___ had her wee checked and about the only other thing that happened was that K___ was able to listen to the baby's heartbeat, but there were no surprises. Let's see what the consultant has to say on Wednesday.
