Mum to be here.
On the recommendation of the midwife I to the physio on Friday to get to the bottom (no pun intended) of my back, hip and pelvis problems. Our local NHS trust allows you to self-refer for physio during pregnancy to a special 'ladies' physiotherapy (and I'm a Lady you know).
Having had to strip down to my tragic maternity bra and knickers (lets just say that the days of matching lingerie are long gone) and been poked and prodded to see my range of movement and pain levels the diagnosis was along the lines of 'you will have pain but it should go away once the baby is born' - bonus!
For the technical folk amongst you it turns out I have Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction with a touch of the old Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction which is all to do with the joints that hold the three parts of the pelvis together. As I understand it the relaxation of the ligaments surrounding the joints during pregnancy thanks to our old friend the Relaxin hormone (someone must have thought long and hard when they named that!) makes them separate which can cause uncomfortable movement. I have some exercises to do to try and strengthen certain muscles and support the joints and also a rather attractive support belt to wear.
Having spent the last few months spending half the night turning over as the pain gets too much in one hip and then over again as it gets too much in the other I am now spending a good chunk of the night propped up on my back as the pain in my left hip is such that I can't lay on it at all at the moment. Oh how I miss sleeping on my tummy!
8 weeks and counting till the baby is due...
