This World Sharpens Teeth

The numerous joys of motherhood...... no 10,424

Olivia is teething. She is fine in herself and happy to play but won't drink anything. She just cries every time you put the bottle in her mouth. This of course means she is waking up at stupid-o'clock in the morning, probably cause she is hungry. She also catagorically refuses to take Calpol so I am going to have to go and get a medicine syringe and squirt it down her - she may hate me for it in the short term but will thank me for it later :) She has a variety of teether toys to chew but generally anything she can get her hands on ends up in her mouth - soft toys (poor Teddy will never be the same), Mummy's arm, Mummy's hair...........

Various people have sworn by Ashton & Parsons Teething Powder, which apparently was put on the earth by angels to preserve the sanity of Mummies everywhere. I'll be visiting the chemist this afternoon!

  1. I've never heard of any teething powder.

here in the ER where I work, they suggest Infant/Children's Motrin rather than Tylenol b/c of the anti-inflammatory benefit.

Also, Gage NEVER would take a teething toy. He preferred his cold, metal rattle.

Some kids wanted frozen this or that...not Gage. Too cold was no good, and too soft was no good. He just wanted his metal rattle.

    Hang in there....

  2. 3B was like Gage--no cold or frozen toys, just whatever was at hand. He did develop some favorites, which were, we think, based on his ability to hold them, and their shape, which allowed them to hit his gums in the right spots. Small (2" across) rings were a big hit, as was his crib rail. And yes, Mama and Papa's shoulders, the couch, and even the floor in a pinch. Hang in there. It'll pass.
