Oh dear.
K___'s off sick today. In fact, she was off sick yesterday afternoon. It's just a cold - and I seem to have the beginnings of one too - but what with her being pregnant it's knocked her for six. Normally, K___ and I are very much of the 'don't be stupid, it's a cold, of course I'm not going to take a week off work' mentality but I think we're both a bit more wary of this one.
She's feeling dizzy, getting hot and cold flushes, has a blocked up nose and is headachey. Her natural inclination is not to have any medications during the pregnancy but I think if there were anything she could take, she would. According to this site, a bit of paracetamol for the headache is allowed, but K___ would rather not if she can avoid it.
The irony is that it is the baby's fault. Well, that's not quite true. She keeps saying; 'It's all your fault!', meaning me, but I am choosing to believe that this is not entirely serious. I am also banking on the fact that pregnant women appear to get their memories wiped after the birth in order that they won't try and avoid going through such hell again, otherwise I'm going to get the blame for every problem our child ever has, which seems a bit on the unfair side! Anyway, it is the baby's fault; the body suppresses the immune system to ensure that it doesn't try and reject this strange parasitic organism that has done an Alien impression on the mother. As a result, K___'s more likely to be succeptable to colds and other nasties.
What about Junior? If Mummy gets a cold, will Junior get it? No. The umbelical cord will ensure that there is little danger of him or her getting the cold.
Goddamn it, the kid is taking the piss out of its parents already!
