Day 164 - Wine is Fine, But Whisky's Quicker

A shock finding in the free newspaper 'Metro' (the paper we like to describe as "Yesterday's News Today").

According to the baby charity Tommy's, one in twenty expectant mothers drink more than the recommended amount of alcohol during their pregnancy. The current recommended government guidelines are 1-2 units a week, although Tommy's recommends total abstinance, as any alcohol can pass through the placenta. Rather bizarrely, the Metro chose to describe the limits as '1-2 units, once or twice a week' which is double the government's recommendations. Still, it is part of the Mail group, so good journalism was hardly likely.

I suppose I'm just surprised. It's not like it's not impressed on you that, durr, drinking during pregnancy is bad, and of course anyone with half a brain already knows it anyway. You have to wonder who thinks, 'Oh yeah, that bit about Foetal Alcohol Syndrome doesn't apply to me, so I can large it up all the time...' Nevertheless, 36,000 babies will be born to selfish fuckwits who knowingly drank and gave their babies FAS in the UK alone this year.

Some people really shouldn't be allowed to breed.

  1. The ones who smoke, do drugs AND/OR drink during pregnancies should probably just be sterilized.

    Harsh, but necessary.
